Description

A premium-spec structural glazing spacer tape from Norton / Saint-Gobain. Saint-Gobain describes Thermalbond (formerly Norton Tape) as the industry standard for structural spacer tapes for over 40 years. Norton / Saint-Gobain Thermalbond V2200 is a semi-rigid, open-cell polyurethane foam with acrylic adhesive on both sides. It holds the glass in place while the structural silicone cures, and its open cells let air and moisture reach the silicone for optimum curing.

Ideal for

  • Spacer for two- and four-sided structural silicone glazing systems
  • Shop (factory) fabrication of glazed units. Saint-Gobain designs V2200 for shop glazing, with lower static load-bearing than its V2100 series. Thermalbond V2100 is available on request: call us on 1300 435 191.
  • Curtain wall and window fabricators, glaziers and façade contractors

Key benefits

  • Open-cell structure lets air and moisture reach the silicone for optimum curing
  • Semi-rigid polyurethane foam. Compatible with all silicones tested. Always confirm compatibility with your silicone manufacturer for each project.
  • Low thermal conductivity (0.08 W/m·°C) improves wall performance
  • Excellent resistance to temperature variations, fungi and oxidation
  • No staining: passes the ASTM D925 migratory staining test on acrylic enamel

Application tips

  1. Clean: surfaces must be clean and free of oil, grease, moisture, dust and dirt. Isopropyl alcohol is good for cleaning.
  2. Check temperature: apply between 16°C and 52°C.
  3. Position accurately: adhesion is very quick and builds over 24 hours.
  4. Press: apply uniform pressure of about 103 kPa (15 psi) for good contact.
  5. Confirm compatibility: confirm silicone compatibility with your silicone manufacturer. Saint-Gobain advises each project be lab-tested by the silicone manufacturer for compatibility between Thermalbond, the structural silicone and all adjacent components.

FAQ

Which silicones is it compatible with?
Compatible with all silicones tested. Always confirm compatibility with your silicone manufacturer for each project. Because every glazing system is different, the manufacturer advises each project be lab-tested by the silicone manufacturer.

Why open-cell foam?
The open cells let air and moisture reach the structural silicone so it cures properly.

Can I use it for on-site (field) glazing?
V2200 is designed for shop fabrication, with lower static load-bearing than the V2100 series. For field glazing or heavier glass units, Thermalbond V2100 is available on request: call us on 1300 435 191.

What temperature should I apply it at?
Between 16°C and 52°C. Below 16°C the adhesive doesn't flow properly and may bond poorly. The recommended service temperature is −40°C to 82°C.

Which thickness do I need?
Use the thickness specified in your glazing design or by your silicone manufacturer. Call us if you're unsure.
