Description
Description
Protect pipes, flanges, valves and fittings from corrosion, above or below ground. Australian-made Denso Tape is a non-woven synthetic fabric fully impregnated with a neutral petrolatum compound. It goes on cold, needs only hand- or power-tool surface prep, and can even be applied to cold, wet surfaces. It isn't affected by water, acids, salts or soil organics, and it's the core of the Denso Petrolatum Tape System, with over 80 years of proven applications.
Ideal for
- Above- and below-ground pipes, flanges, valves and related surfaces
- Underwater pipework, metal surfaces and cables, and temporary sealing of fractured mains and cable joints
- Marginally prepared or rusty surfaces (hand- or power-tool cleaned)
- Encapsulating lead paint
- Water, plumbing and irrigation pipework
Key benefits
- Made in Australia by Denso Australia
- Cold applied, no solvents, and ready for service immediately after application
- Surface tolerant: applies to marginally prepared surfaces (SSPC SP2/SP3) and to cold, wet surfaces
- Not affected by water, acids, salts or soil organics; excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and salts
- Conforms to irregular shapes and profiles
- Easy to apply from arctic to tropical temperatures; service up to 50°C (55°C intermittent peaks)

How to apply
- Prepare the surface: remove all loose scale, rust and other foreign matter by hand-tool (SSPC SP2) or power-tool (SSPC SP3) cleaning. A high-pressure water wash at 3,000–7,000 psi (20.68–48.26 MPa) is also suitable. Firmly adherent rust and scale don't need to be removed.
- Prime: apply a thin film of Denso MP Primer by gloved hand, brush or rag.
- Profile irregular shapes: valves, flanges and similar may need Denso Mastic.
- Wrap: spirally wrap the tape with a 55% overlap. Press out air pockets and smooth all lap seams as you go.
- Protect: overwrap for mechanical protection. Denso specifies Denso PVC Tape below ground, such as our Denso PVC SA Outerwrap Tape, or Denso Sirex Tape above ground. Denso Sirex and other Denso products are available on request: call us on 1300 435 191.
Tip: choose a tape width roughly equal to the pipe diameter.

Bulk pricing and cartons
Bulk pricing applies automatically (see the table above). You can mix colours and sizes to reach a tier. Cartons: 50mm, 24 rolls; 100mm, 12 rolls; 150mm, 8 rolls (each about 17 kg and covering about 5.4 m² at 55% overlap). Full-carton pricing is available on some sizes: call us on 1300 435 191. We can also help with larger quantities, 200mm or 300mm widths (on request) and trade accounts.
Dispatch and freight
Orders are packed Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Order before 2pm (Melbourne time) on a pack day and in-stock items are sent the same day. Otherwise, your order goes out on the next pack day.
Sent express from our Melbourne warehouse. Air express for parcels under 5 kg, road express for heavier orders. Heavy item: Denso Tape is very heavy (a full carton weighs about 17 kg), so its freight is calculated differently from our other tapes and isn't covered by our $22 AUD shipping cap. It's worked out automatically at checkout, based on your order and delivery address. Not sure which width or system you need? Call 1300 435 191 before you order. Change-of-mind returns attract a 15% restocking fee (see our Returns policy).
FAQ
Do I need to use primer?
Yes. Denso Australia recommends a thin film of Denso MP Primer before wrapping. It penetrates rust, displaces moisture and helps the tape adhere. We stock the 2.5 kg tub.
Can I apply it to a wet or rusty surface?
Yes. Denso Tape can be applied to cold, wet surfaces and to marginally prepared surfaces. Remove loose scale and rust by hand- or power-tool cleaning first. Firmly adherent rust doesn't need to be removed.
What width should I buy, and how much?
As a rule of thumb, choose a width roughly equal to the pipe diameter. We stock 50, 100 and 150mm; 200mm and 300mm are available on request. At 55% overlap, a full carton of 50mm, 100mm or 150mm covers about 5.4 m². Call 1300 435 191 and we'll help you work out quantities.
Can I use it above ground and below ground?
Yes. It protects pipes, flanges and valves above and below ground, and can be used underwater. Below ground, overwrap with Denso PVC SA Outerwrap for mechanical protection. For above-ground outerwrap, Denso Sirex and other Denso products are available on request: call us.
What temperatures is it suitable for?
Maximum service temperature is 50°C, with intermittent peaks to 55°C. It's easy to apply from arctic to tropical temperatures. For higher-temperature jobs, call us on 1300 435 191.
